1961 Porsche 356

1961 Porsche 356

Fresh to market

This 1961 Porsche 356B 1600S coupe is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and is finished in red over black leather. Equipment includes a luggage rack, a driver-side mirror, vent windows, body-color bumpers, an AM/FM radio, and front bucket seats. The car has reportedly remained in the same family since new. This 356B coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate and transferable New York registration.

The T5 body was introduced for the 1960 model year with revised front-end styling, including raised bumpers and headlights along with a redesigned front trunk lid handle. This Reutter-built example is finished in red and has been repainted. Features include a luggage rack, a chrome driver-side mirror, a windshield washer system, vent windows, and body-color bumpers with chrome overriders. The seller notes rust on the underside of the passenger door.

The 15″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 155SR15 Vredestein tires. The car was factory equipped with drum brakes at each corner. There is corrosion on the wheels.

The front bucket seats and rear jump seats are upholstered in black leather, and interior appointments include an AM/FM radio and a black-painted dashboard.

The three-spoke steering wheel wears a lace-up cover and frames green-letter VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles.

The 1.6-liter flat-four came equipped from the factory with two Zenith 32 NDIX carburetors and was factory rated at 88 (SAE) horsepower.

Engine stamping *89261* is shown above.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transaxle.

The Porsche Classic Technical Certificate shows a build date in April 1961 and states that a visual inspection of the engine number corresponds to original documents.
